National
Tournament News
The USFFL began formal league play in the fall of
1987. It's stated goal that year was to travel to the Nationals.
The USFFL's first Championship team, NCSU, played in the 1987
College National in New Orleans. The USFFL has sent at least one
team to the Nationals for 19 straight years. Several years ago the
USFFL encouraged the expansion of tournament play beyond the
Triangle with tournaments in Wrightsville Beach and Charlotte with
the purpose of getting more North Carolina teams to travel. Now
teams from all over North Carolina are represented in Orlando at
the Flag Football Nationals as well Regional NIT's.
2005 North
Carolina State Championships
Last
December we had 26 teams play in the NCFFA State Screen Flag
Football Championships. The
Wrightsville Beach Hurricanes defeated perennial league champions
Blinco's for their second straight State "A" League title and
newcomers, 2/6 Ballers, from Fayetteville, won the "B" League
Championships. Congradulations to both teams but while the
Hurricanes have long been recognized as a powerhouse the 2/6
Ballers came on the scene as a total unknown. They played,
however, like a veteran team. They easily won the "B"
Championships and played well in Orlando.

North Carolina's
Nationally Ranked Teams
Teams from the USFFL continue to play in Regional
and National Tournaments. This past January three area teams
traveled to Orlando to play in the National Flag Football
Championships in Orlando, FL. - Blinco's (7 Man Screen & 5 Man
Contact), RDU Assault (7 Man Screen & 5 Man Contact), and the
Cardinal's (5 Man Contact). Additional teams from North Carolina
participated including the NCFFA 2005 State Champions Hurricanes
and 2/6 Ballers. Teams from Charlotte's 9 Man league played as
well: Unanimous Decision and Carolina Connection. Blinco's (1997),
Pack Attack (2003), and the Cardinal's (2003) have won National
Championships in Orlando.
Currently, 15 North Carolina Teams are Nationally Ranked
